ACADEMY AWARD WINNER BEN KINGSLEY READS NOBEL PEACE PRIZE NOMINEE THICH NHAT HANH'S INSPIRING MASTERPIECE
"When you are a truly happy Christian, you are also a Buddhist. And vice versa." -- Thich Nhat Hanh
World-renowned thinker and scholar Thich Nhat Hanh, considered by many to be a "Living Buddah," explores the spiritual crossroads where the traditions of Christianity and Buddhism meet. Living Buddha, Living Christ reawakens our understanding of both religions and the connections between them.
The bestselling author of Creating True Peace, and one of the most beloved Buddhist teachers in the West, Vietnamese monk Thich Nhat Hanh has been part of a decades-long dialogue between the two greatest living contemplative traditions. In lucid, meditative prose, he explores the crossroads of compassion and holiness at which the two traditions meet, and reawakens our understanding of both. "On the altar in my hermitage," he says, "are images of Buddha and Jesus, and I touch both of them as my spiritual ancestors."

About the Author
Thich Nhat Hanh (pronounced tik-not-hawn) is a world-renowned writer, scholar, spiritual leader, and Zen Buddhist monk. Since age sixteen, he has been a Buddhist monk, a peace activist, and a seeker of the way. He has survived three wars, persecution, and more than thirty years of exile from his native Vietnam, when he was banned by both the non-Communist and Communist governments for his role in undermining the violence he saw affecting his people. He is still the master of one of the most prominent temples in Vietnam, and his lineage is traceable directly to the Buddha himself. A prolific author, Nhat Hanh has written more than one hundred books of philosophy, poetry, and fiction. Currently, Nhat Hanh lives in a monastic community in southwestern France that he founded, called Plum Village, where he teaches, writes, gardens, and works to help refugees worldwide. Amazon.com Review
If you have always assumed that Christianity and Buddhism are as far apart philosophically as their respective founders were geographically, you may be in for a bit of a surprise. In this national bestseller, Zen monk and social activist Thich Nhat Hanh draws parallels between these two traditions that have them walking, hand in hand, down the same path to salvation. In Christianity, he finds mindfulness in the Holy Spirit as an agent of healing. In Buddhism, he finds unqualified love in the form of compassion for all living things. And in both he finds an emphasis on living practice and community spirit.

The thread that binds the book is the same theme that draws many Christians toward Buddhism: mindfulness. Through anecdotes, scripture references, and teachings from both traditions, Nhat Hanh points out that mindfulness is an integral part of all religious practice and teaches us how to cultivate it in our own lives. Nhat Hanh has no desire to downplay the venerable theological and ritual teachings that distinguish Buddhism and Christianity, but he does cause one to consider that beyond the letter of doctrine lies a unity of truth.

From Library Journal
In this popular work Hahn, a Vietnamese Zen monk, offers some parallels between Eastern and Western spiritual practice in an accessible style that will please general readers.

Great commentary on both Buddhism and Christianity
By M. Sullivan
I don't always like Thich Nhat Hanh's way of looking at Buddhism--he's sometimes too touchy-feely for me, and he gets a little repetitious with what I think can be interpreted as an over-emphasis on mindfulness at the apparent expense of the other seven parts of the eightfold path. Also, I'm not particularly interested in Christianity.

That said, this is a great book! By focusing on similarities and relationships between the dharma and Christian practice, to which most westerners will relate, he makes Buddhist concepts like emptiness much more "graspable" to the western mind. I imagine there are Christians who will object to some of his interpretations of Christian doctrine, but overall, it's a good study.

I facilitate a Buddhist meditation practice group in Florida, and know there are many Christians who are interested in Buddhism, meditation, etc., but don't want to give up their Christian beliefs. This book provides a good framework for integrating the two practices. I highly recommend it, and also the companion work, "Going Home: Jesus and Buddha as Brothers."

The Lotus in the Cross and the Cross in the Lotus
By Andrew Harrell
Review of the two Books, 1) The Lotus and the Cross by Ravi Zacharias and 2) Living Buddha Living Christ by Thich Nhat Hanh

"Awareness and faith are reflections of two Truths." Poem by Andrew Harrell about the One Buddha who is God's Son Christ Jesus

"If we are only who we are, then who are we? And, If I AM is not who I am, then who will be?"

I have studied both these books and thought about the arguments in both of them for several years now. The one gives me reasons, some of which are based on the Bible, why I should think of my future as superior to those who don't believe in the same theology as myself. The other concentrates on practical techniques to be more aware of both my impermanence, how to look deeper and be more compassionate to those around me, to be more open to change (independent of theology).... But, also my permanent divine inheritance as a living gift inside of the present moment. I prefer the second.

Many Christians are quick to criticize those who teach the Buddhist and Hindu Yogic techniques of individual contemplative prayer as being un-Christian. But, after 40 years of practicing them, I am certain they are very similar to those which Jesus studied and spent a lot of time practicing when he walked on earth the for first time about 2000 years ago. One criticism is that this type of contemplative prayer does not request anything from God, it only seeks to understand how we can exist better as human beings in this present moment. Therefore, the argument goes, since we are trying to understand ourself better instead of God and since human nature is flawed in itself (something which I totally agree with) we are doomed to suffer repeated failure in these attempts. This argument does not consider the possibility that God doesn't start out as a person outside of us (in the Church or the Bible for instant) and isn't already existing inside of us helping us to overcome these failings. But, we know ourselves from our personal experience and also the Bible teaches in the book of John and elsewhere that, when we call upon Him for help (through Jesus Christ), that God does exist as a Holy Spirit in us. For too long the traditional way to follow Jesus has been to try and collect a larger group of worshippers than others and help convince ourselves that we don't need to go to the trouble of learning more about what others believe. As individuals we definitely do need groups and higher powers in order to solve problems that are difficult. The tragedy, is that in the past this has lead to many religious wars and untold suffering. For our human nature tends to try convince ourselves that the particular people outside of these groups are different, or "unsaved". It is taught that they need to be looked down on and need to be separated out from us. But, Jesus Christ himself did not do this, for he taught that we should look up on others this way. But He taught us we need to understand how others are ourselves. We need to do this so we can love them as ourselves. And, the United States of America was founded by our forefathers with a constitution of rules of civil government and society in order to create a more perfect union of all of us in order that these tragedies of egotistical religious and societal Church self-promotion might happen less often.

I have posted this review at our website I would love to discuss it further there.

GREAT BOOK ON BUDDHISM AND CHRISTIANITY-DONT PASS ON IT!
By Amazon Customer
Living Buddha, Living Christ is one of my top ranked "spiritual" books. Hanh does a very excellent job of explaining the
beautiful and amazing unity of Buddhism and Christianity....very deep and insightful. He also is able to express
what Christianity is all about even more deeply and better than a number of Christian writers which in and of itself
demonstrates how our spiritual selves are more alike than different in nature....a real wake up call for all of us!
I believe we are more alike than different and like Hahn I also participate in religious disciplines other than my own
and find it very satisfying and quite the "gift".

One of the most important chess books ever written, reissued in celebration of a chess genius, Bobby Fischer. The American takes the reader through 60 of his games, describing his thoughts, the intricacies behind his and his opponent's strategies, the tactical justification of moves and the psychological battle in each one. You'll find beautifully simple positional play next to out-of-this-world combinations that are just breathtaking. Fischer played nearly all of these games as a grandmaster so they are at the very highest level, but his lucid commentary makes every move and idea both accessible and understandable. Every player will learn huge amounts from this book. It is essential for each chess enthusiast, competitor and professional. The controversial alterations that were made to Bobby Fischer's words in the last edition have been omitted in this book, so only the author's own words are expressed, giving aa true insight into one of the most gifted, troubled and controversial minds of the 20th century.

A suppressed masterpiece.
By tepi
Readers should be aware that there have been several editions of this book. In its original form, in descriptive notation and with Fischer's own annotations, it was very well received indeed, earning high praise from many top players and chess writers. It was also voted the best chess book in any category by the readers of the British Chess Magazine, and I'm sure by others.
Unfortunately, when it was later re-edited and issued in an algebraic edition, something happened to Fischer's original annotations. The editors apparently 'revised' them, and the effect was - as Fischer vehemently complained in a recent radio interview - to make him look like "a patzer." He claims that the new annotations are riddled with errors and could never have come from his hand.
Since 'My 60 Memorable Games' is as about important to students of chess as Shakespeare's plays are to students of literature, it would be nice to be able to tell readers to avoid the mutilated algebraic edition and to make sure they get a reprint of the earlier and untampered-with edition of the book. Unhappily neither edition appears to be available. Both have been allowed to go out of print and remain out of print.
One is left wondering just who is keeping this masterpiece off the market. And why...?

The Book and I
By J. McNair
Hm...

When I first decided on aquiring this literary masterpiece, I was quite under the impression that there would be a higher annotation:move ratio. I was wrong, but perhaps that is a good thing.

There is a plethora of chess enlightenment within the pages. Knowledge isn't spoon-fed to you, as in many lower-level books, but there are excellent annotations which let us peek into the mind of a chess legend. A chess legend whom, if you are reading this page, you probably adore.

The games are ones which Bobby Fischer considers memorable, so therefore they must be pretty great, right? They are!

Still, as I mentioned, the annotations aren't spoon-fed to you, so you won't be getting anything out of simply playing over the moves really quickly and glancing at the annotations. You actually have to sit in front of Fischer's opponent and contemplate the moves through Fischer's eyes.

C.S.Purdy once said,"If the student forces himself to examine all moves that smite, however absurd they may look at first glance, he is on the way to becoming a master of tactics."

I quote him, because, a lot of Fischer's moves come out of nowhere. When going over Bobby's games in endeavor to guess which move comes next, calculating the bizarre moves is beneficial.

It's an excellent book if you are a dedicated chess player. Casual chess players won't get nearly as much out of it. In other words, if chess is your hobby, you won't get as much out of it. If chess is your life, then stop reading customer reviews, and just go ahead and purchase the book!

Reading this book made me a fan!
By Valdez
First I would like to state this is not the infamous 1995 Batsford release that infuriated Bobby Fischer. This 2009 copy puts all that scandal in the past and lets a new generation enjoy this great book in the language spoken by most players algerbraic notation. The previous alterations in the 1995 edition have been omitted making this a faithful reproduction of a great work. Mostly grammatical errors and misspellings have been corrected. I happen to own this book and compared it to with the alterations stated by Mr. Winter in his article Fischer's Fury and this new issue holds true. Only one alteration was made that is the game Fischer - Tal Candidates Tournament 1959. Fischer in his original book gives (50.....Ba1 when Bobby could have won with 51. Rc8+) instead the correct move made actually in the game 50....Kc7. Fischer in a interview for a chess magazine states at the last minute before the book hit the printing press he caught the error, he attached a note but fell off. Making this an updated copy.

Before reading this book I disdained studying any Fischer games because I believed he couldn't have been a good player for dropping out of competitive chess. Reading this book completely changed my opinion now I consider him my favorite chess player of all time. What makes this game collection so good it was written by Fischer himself. No chess writer can give you a better insight than the man who actually played the games. Fischer's commentary to his games is refreshing bringing his games to life with humor, brutal honesty and humbleness often stating where he made mistakes and could have played better. It shows Bobby's genius to remember the emotional and phycological ups and downs to his games played years before henceforth the title. You also cant beat the annotations they come strait from the mind of one of history's greatest chess artist. You wont be bored here Fisher gives a healthy amount of notes usually at key moments in the games as opposed to other chess writers who leave the reader confused with an extreme amount of notes with no value. Fischer's games are absolutley beautiful I doubt there are many readers who will disagree. This is a must have for any chess reader with any amount of good taste.

Everything That Rises Must Converge, by Flannery O'Connor

This collection of nine short stories by Flannery O'Connor was published posthumously in 1965. The flawed characters of each story are fully revealed in apocalyptic moments of conflict and violence that are presented with comic detachment.

The title story is a tragicomedy about social pride, racial bigotry, generational conflict, false liberalism, and filial dependence. The protagonist, Julian Chestny, is hypocritically disdainful of his mother's prejudices, but his smug selfishness is replaced with childish fear when she suffers a fatal stroke after being struck by a black woman she has insulted out of oblivious ignorance rather than malice.

Similarly, "The Comforts of Home" is about an intellectual son with an Oedipus complex. Driven by the voice of his dead father, the son accidentally kills his sentimental mother in an attempt to murder a harlot.

The other stories are "A View of the Woods", "Parker's Back", "The Enduring Chill", "Greenleaf", "The Lame Shall Enter First", "Revelation", and "Judgment Day".

Flannery O'Connor was working on Everything That Rises Must Converge at the time of her death. This collection is an exquisite legacy from a genius of the American short story, in which she scrutinizes territory familiar to her readers: race, faith, and morality. The stories encompass the comic and the tragic, the beautiful and the grotesque; each carries her highly individual stamp and could have been written by no one else.

One of the best in the genre
By Brian Carpenter
My copy of _Everything That Rises Must Converge_ has been shouting at me from high up on my bookshelf for several years now. I don't know when I picked up this book; in the dark ages, I suppose, back when I appreciated no book more than the Bible, and most books less than Louis L'Amour's _Sackett's Land_. But my book keeps yelling. "Hey ...!" it says. "I'm getting booklice up here! What are you reading that [book] for ...?"--Don't be too alarmed. All of O'Connor's books shout at readers that way.
Do you want to know something, though? The book has a pretty good reason to shout. Although it's been months since I finally read the collection, it hasn't quieted down. Moreover, I've grown appreciative of its company.
_Everything that Rises..._ was released after O'Connor's death. The hallmark story leads a parade of nine others, a veritable Mardi-Gras of intellectuals, petulants, vindictives, intolerants, and misconceivers, all down a path toward redemption, and thankfully, all with their shirts _on_ (except for that one guy with the tattoo, of course).
"Theology--ugh. Stop saying 'redemption'," some readers holler. Fortunately, O'Connor's theology is well-masked. In fact, I had to read her biography, look at her essays, and dig with a backhoe before I located any theology. But I found it. It was hiding there in plain sight, and once I saw it, I wondered that I had ever missed it. I had trouble locating her theology because O'Connor has a habit of flaying peoples' minds to reveal their darker side. And when you flay somebody's mind, well, to quote Lady Macbeth, "Who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him?" Wait now--before you shout "Violence--ugh. Stop saying 'flay'," I need to tell you about her work.
O'Connor uses no words of mystery. That woman was club-thumping blunt. If you prefer stories that wash down pleasantly with watercress sandwiches and Darjeeling, then you'd better find your authors elsewhere. However, if you need something that brands your soul, and if you want the burn to last a long, long time, then read this collection.
O'Connor was passionate about two things in her life (well, three things actually, if you count large domesticated birds, but that's for another review): she loved her religion, and she loved the South. Her writing feels the effects of both. If the South provides the actual meat and potatoes of the story, then her Catholicism provides the salt, without which her stories truly might have been intolerable.

The South is not just a home for O'Connor. The south looms over her writing like a half-ton gorilla. But in a good way. Her region gives her work location, yes, but more importantly a sense of history, and of direction. She was fiercely unrepentant of her Southern heritage, at least in terms of its importance to her craft. Her collection of essays asserts that her Southern characters were grotesque because of their bad manners, yet to her, "bad manners are preferable to no manners at all."
Her work is equally tempered by her fierce Catholicism. In this age, where the church itself is virtually anathema, readers may be surprised that O'Connor attended Mass nearly every day of her life.
O'Connor is unrelenting in her work to provide situations of redemption and grace to broken people, and just in case the reader accidentally misses her point, she makes her characters very ugly and her redemptions--well, the only word to describe an O'Connor redemption is violent. O'Connor's God is not a bubbly, bearded Gnome who dances with pixies at lake's edge. _Her_ God whomps you on the head with a plank, because _someone_ hasn't been paying attention in Life 101. Pow! Redemption!
This concept may be difficult for Protestant readers, because we are often quick to identify grace as a gift from the God of mercy. We do well, therefore, to read this Catholic, who reminds us that grace is doled out by a God who is just. I guess I am telling you this because O'Connor's characters don't fall off cliff because it was determined that way--her characters fall because they are so fallen in the first place. They fall because of the inevitability of the character's nature. Humankind, in O'Connor's opinion, needs the occasional swift kick-in-the-pants to return them to a state of grace before God. Besides, is it not infinitely more pleasurable to watch the Coyote fall into the canyon when his hand-made Acme hang-glider collapses, than to endure the Care-Bears' fight against the bad, evil meanies, with the power of good?
Robert Fitzgerald assembled a 25-page introduction to this work. Despite its length, Fitzgerald's piece is probably the best biographical account on the market, and is certainly a useful look at the work it precedes. However, Fitzgerald, like too many writers of forewords, assumes too much knowledge of O'Connor's works on the part of the reader. He supposes we have heard of Taulkingham, or of Ruby Turpin, or Hazel Motes. We will not encounter these people in the present work, and the extra names and plot summaries only get in the way. Fitzgerald is dead, though, so I guess he won't be changing the introduction any time soon.
O'Connor's works are audacious and skilled. Occasionally, the reader can spot the thorns popping through the seams of some of the stories, due to her untimely death. It is evident to the reader that a few of these stories needed more rubbing and polishing. Yet, one by one, O'Connor's characters, depraved sons-of-guns one and all, limp through their metronome world until they are ultimately redeemed by their God. The intensity of reader's experience does not slacken until the last page.
I think this explains why _Everything that Rises Must Converge_ still shouts at me. And it will shout at you, to remind you that you are fallen, too--"Hey stupid! Put down your pen and read me again!"

O'Connor's Castigation of Bigots
By S. DEMILLE
What's the difference between a good and bad story? One will cause you to ponder its message long after you read it while the other will do nothing more than fill time. I did my share of pondering after reading each of Flannery's stories in this collection.
The stories, for the most part, take place in the rural South, where we hear the bleating of sheep, the snorting of pigs, and the mooing of cows. There is a narrow, but effective, variety of characters portrayed, from landowner to squatter, from black to white. The stories simmer with a religious flavor, and those who are religious seem to be either haughty and self-righteous or hopelessly naive. The religious bigots think their medicine is best and should be taken by everyone, while they themselves are really the ones "in need of a physician." The intellectuals weave throughout a story or two, and like some of the religious ones, they treat those around them with disdain and downright viciousness. The characters seldom remain unscathed, however. Divine justice usually swoops down and executes revenge upon them, either directly or indirectly. This revenge often tends toward the grotesque, and I often finished a story with my jaw hanging open. Now I can't wait to digest her complete collection.

"Floundering around in the thoughts of various unsavory characters."
By D. Cloyce Smith
For her first collection of stories ("A Good Man Is Hard to Find"), O'Connor gathered an assortment that had been previously published in magazines; the result was a fascinating, but unsystematic, potpourri of experimentation and originality. As she prepared the stories for "Everything That Rise Must Converge," however, she instead developed each selection under a thematic framework. (Only the last two stories, which were literally rushed to completion as she lay on her deathbed, seem to stand a bit apart.) The collection as a whole, even more than her previous fiction, emphasizes the absurdities and monstrosities of everyday life and the tension between the demands of the self and the mystery of the divine presence.

One of O'Connor's primary mentors for her approach to fiction was, surprisingly, James Joyce (and, specifically, "Dubliners"), and his influence is nowhere more obvious than in this book. In one story ("The Enduring Chill"), she pokes fun at Joyce's worldview in an exchange between an artist and a priest. She was surely alienated by Joyce's un-Catholic sentiments, but she acknowledged his influence in her essay "The Nature and Aim of Fiction": "The major difference between the novel as written in the eighteenth century and the novel as we usually find it today is the disappearance from it of the author. . . . By the time we get to James Joyce, the author is nowhere to be found in the book. The reader is on his own, floundering around in the thoughts of various unsavory characters."

"Unsavory characters" are, without doubt, O'Connor's specialty. Yet, is O'Connor effectively able to remove herself from her narratives? Do the stories in this collection succeed, as she intended, as a thematically linked sequence? And, aside from her stated literary goals, are these stories really that good?

Well, on the first two counts, the results are mixed. In spite of her intentions, O'Connor's presence crowds several of these stories. In "The Lame Shall Enter First" (my own favorite), a vague didacticism is obvious both in O'Connor's not-very-subtle manipulation of events and in the story's portrayals of the juvenile delinquent Rufus Johnson and his mentor Sheppard, a Good Samaritan wannabe. Yet O'Connor steps back just enough to allow the story itself to convey the depth of Sheppard's moral collapse. The less successful "Parker's Back" (one of the deathbed stories) concerns a "trailer trash" husband who, much to his wife's dismay, gets a tattoo of Jesus Christ inked on his back. It's one of O'Connor's more brilliant scenarios, but the psychological sermonizing of the omniscient narrator is a bit heavy-handed. The author is everywhere to be found in this story.

As for the collection's coherence: O'Connor moral vision is certainly more easily discernible in this book than in any of her previous works. But, like the "Lives of the Saints" she so cherished, O'Connor's hagiography of sinners, read back to back, occasionally suffers from a certain formulaic uniformity and predictability. Still, each story, enjoyed at random on its own, has the potential for being your "favorite O'Connor story"-and it's hard to find two readers who will agree on which stories in this collection are best. As a collection, then, it's a bit tame. Individually, however, the stories really are that good.

Throughout her career, O'Connor invented a gallery of memorable reprobates and unlikely prophets. Whether read separately or as a cycle, these nine stories add much to her unique legacy. And the collection will also help clear the air for readers (like me) who had always been enchanted by O'Connor's works of fiction but perplexed by critics who stress their theological and symbolic underpinnings.

Get this f@#$ing book right now, it will help you so much.
By Ellen Charles
Let me start by saying that I HATE college, I HATE reading, I HATE writing, and I HATE textbooks. But I LOVE this book.

This... this handy little book is a thousand times more awesome than the internet. So much easier to get TONS of super specific citations. Every time I look up how to cite things I get some annoying outdated or inaccurate website that doesn't include new media from which to cite. This book tells you how to cite a tweet on TWITTER. That's plenty up to date if you ask me, and such a valuable addition to my bookshelf. If your prof says get this, get it. If your prof does not, still buy it. And make sure to literally BUY it. Do not rent it. B U Y T H E B O O K because you will be referring to it constantly through your college years and possibly even way after you've earned your degree. I use it constantly and I would be so lost without it. This book straight up got me on the Dean's list and helped me get the grades I need for my career in psychology.

BUY IT. DO IT NOOOOW.

Great book!
By Luana Teles
I like this book a lot. It was one of the recommendations to my English class. They provide online access to exercises that can help a lot if you take them seriously. The only issue I would say about The Bedford Handbook is that sometimes the reading doesn't follow a patter because we are always recommended to go back to different pages. Ex. let's say you are reading p. 250 and they say 'p. 145 has more details'. I mean, it is ok, but I would rather the book has followed a sequence. Anyways, I recommend the book!

"Marzi's charming and irreverent illustrations are exactly what young and old introverts need to approach their temperament with wisdom and self-affirmation." --Susan Cain, author of Quiet

Whoever said there's strength in numbers lied.

Meet Marzi. She's an introvert who often finds herself in awkward situations. Marzi used to feel strange about her introverted tendencies. Not anymore! Now she knows that there are tons of introverts out there just like her--introverts who enjoy peace and quiet, need time alone to recharge their battery, and who prefer staying in with their pet and a good book to awkward social interactions.

Just like Marzi, these introverts can often be found in libraries, at home watching Netflix, brainstorming excuses to miss your next party, or doodling cute cartoons. Being an introvert in an extrovert world isn't always easy, but it certainly is an adventure. In Introvert Doodles, follow Marzi through all of her most uncomfortable, charming, honest, and hilarious moments that everyone--introvert, extrovert, or somewhere in between--can relate to.

A book about me
By Mr. & Mrs. John
Finally someone who understands!
This is a book about me. Marzi accurately draws out the daily interactions of an introvert and those around them. My whole life I've been trying to explain my fears, joys, hesitations... what makes me relax, what makes me anxious... but not many would empathize with me. A lot of people would pick going to a party over going to the library. Not me :)
I was "weird and would eventually get out of this phase". Well I'm 30 now and I'm still an introvert. I'm happy and living a very fulfilling life that I love. But where was this book 15 years ago! You see, Marzi not only shows that there's nothing wrong with being introverted or shy, she also does it in a way that makes you laugh and realize your life is actually pretty interesting. I can relate to each page. Now when I'm with someone who just needs a little more understanding about me I want to hand them this book "here, borrow this. You'll understand" ;)

Marzi's humorous illustrations are brilliant, informative, and even therapeutic!
By John O
I discovered Maureen "Marzi" Wilson's captivating "Introvert Doodles" via social media in mid-2016. "Finally," I thought, "somebody truly understands what it's like to be me!" After learning that a collection of her fun tweets was being published, I pre-ordered the book immediately and am delighted to have it in my hands now. Although Marzi certainly isn't the first person to write about personality types which are more introverted than outgoing, she might be the first to do so in the form of comic strip-like illustrations.

But don't let her chosen medium fool you. Marzi's artful humor offers every bit as much insight and brilliant observation as a scholarly essay into what it's like being an introvert — in a charming book that's a whole lot more fun to read than any essay. And while "Introvert Doodles" is wholesome and absolutely appropriate for readers of any age (after all, what child doesn't like to page through colorful, humorous drawings), my guess is that the first audience Marzi had in mind are adult introverts who, whether they've been trying to navigate our loud and extroverted world for 25 years or 75 years, have experienced countless times the many awkward situations she aptly illustrates.

The humor found within "Introvert Doodles" is potentially both informative and therapeutic. How? Three ways to use Marzi's book immediately come to mind:

1. Every introvert should have this as a coffee table book — THE coffee table book!

2. Fellow introverts, want to provide a friend or loved one (especially those who are naturally extroverted) a special insight into what it's like being you? Buy a copy of "Introvert Doodles," mark the pages which remind you of yourself (or, even better, of situations you shared with that friend or family member), and then give the book as a gift. Don't forget to write a personal message inside the front cover.

3. Think you've spotted someone (friend, relative, acquaintance, coworker, or even a love interest) who you think might be an introvert who isn't yet comfortable in his/her own skin? Gift a copy of Marzi's book as a conversation starter. Inside the cover, I suggest you write a message something like "Each of us is unique, special, and worthy. We are all absolutely fine, just the way we are."

Because those are exactly the warm feelings that Marzi gives to me every time I recognize myself in the pages of "Introvert Doodles." Thanks, Marzi!

If I could pay someone to illustrate my story...
By Sam
This would be it.

This book is so lovely; it was tremendously exciting to receive it in the mail! I'm a 32 year old military veteran, single mother, and healer who has experienced the world as a self proclaimed "extroverted introvert". In most of my lines of work, I've had to be "on" in a big way, all the time. Often I've felt embarrassed at how drained I've felt despite my outwards illusionary projections of myself for others, at how physically, mentally and emotionally challenging it can be for me to stay in socially awkward situations. As I've aged, I've learned to embrace who I am and happily own my awkwardness, and to appreciate those who understand why I'm not always available and need to recharge without limits or expectation.

So reading this book and looking through each illustration brings a huge smile to my face, because I feel as though I'm reading about myself. I feel understood and celebrated! Thank you, Marzi; this book is truly a gift. ❤️
